Workshops

The Iowa Library Association and the State Library of Iowa host many continuing education opportunities. The topics vary from how to improve your storytime to how to add more DEI to your library and collection. Explore below to see workshops that are hosted semi-regularly.

Science Class

STEM Fairs

What is STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) and how can you bring it to your library? STEM Fairs are a great way to learn about easy ways to incorporate STEAM into storytimes, LEGO programs, and more. Keep checking this space for information on when the next STEM fair will be, but in the meantime, check out this video

Reading Together

Summer Reading Summits

The library hosts programming all year, but nothing quite like Summer Reading. For many, Summer Reading at the library conjures memories of reading challenges, fun programming and performers, and (probably) pizza. Learn the why behind Summer Reading at the Summer Reading Summits and brainstorm with fellow librarians about the best programs to bring to your library. And if you missed this year's check out this video from the State Library of Iowa.

Storytime

Storytime Workshops

Storytimes are a staple of youth library programs. However, they can be intimidating. What stories should you choose? What are the best songs? In Storytime Workshops, you can learn best practices from fellow librarians and gain confidence in your storytime repertoire. Check out this video for a recent virtual Storytime Showcase.
